Happy New Year!

Roughly on my list of things to do this time of year are: plan holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas), plan family visits, plan child's January birthday, endless list of administrivia (oh, our pediatrician has gone out of network! thanks!), assemble photo album for prior year, maybe post something to dreamwidth.

The photo album has metastasized--I used to make one album a year pre child. Child's first year was five albums, this year is going to be four. I've outlined everything, but only finished one of them. Between the filing, curating, and layout, it's probably several hundred hours. So if I have any free time to spend on my computer (which is the exact same location I work, since I work from home), that is what I am doing. It used to be a thing I did between Christmas and New Year's, and is now a thing I functionally have to do all the time. I am the red queen, running as fast as I can to stay in place. Oh--and I'm keeping a daily diary, too, for the theoretical future state where my son might care about his early years.

So not so much with posting here. I still read most everything. It's cool to see a new fandom emerge! Though I mostly watch Taskmaster and Real Housewives at this point--that is the level of brain off I am at the end of the day. I still think of things to post! Maybe when the kiddo is older. He's cute, but he's a lot of work! (And almost two--good lord, when did that happen.)

I've been watching a lot of reactions to Heated Rivalry lately (between rewatching the episodes themselves), and there's one scene in episode 6 that has some people losing their minds in stress and dismay and other people completely taking it in stride, and I've been fixating on why I fall into the latter group, so decided I should write about it. I'm not interested in writing fic about it, so thought I'd dust off my essay writing skills (such as they are).

Here's hoping 2026 is better than last year, though that seems unlikely for those of us in the U.S. Unless new representatives help tip the political balance a little.

We started off the day watching the Ducks win the Orange Bowl, which was fun. We didn't do any real New Year's Eve celebrating—HalfshellHusband and I watched a movie, although the Boy went to a small party thrown by a friend of a friend. He had a great time, but I was up late so I could pick him up and bring him home.

Geez, why don't we know any people who can invite us to parties anymore?

Over at Idol, we're waiting on the final poll for the Wheel of Chaos season. I didn't make it into the finale, but I finished 4th this time thanks to everyone's support! I'm looking forward to whenever the 20th season kicks off, but I expect that'll be awhile.

Not sure what I'll do today, other than possibly putting together more of my pseudo-LEGO steampunk airship set. Maybe go out for a brief walk, now that the skies have cleared? It's too wet for bicycling. AND, in case you were wondering... I have biked outside ONE TIME in the last 5 1/2 weeks. We've either had miserably cold fog or rain since November 24th. I am so sick of it. I started watching Orphan Black at the beginning of this stint, and now I'm in Season 5. I may wind up finishing it before the weather gets bikeable again. :O

I hope all of you are enjoying New Year's Day, ideally with friends or family and fun food. \o/

Привет and welcome to our new Russian friends from LiveJournal! We are happy to offer you a new home. We will not require identification for you to post or comment. We also do not cooperate with Russian government requests for any information about your account unless they go through a United States court first. (And it hasn't happened in 16 years!)

Importing your journal from ЖЖ may be slow. There are a lot of you, with many posts and comments, and we have to limit how fast we download your information from ЖЖ so they don't block us. Please be patient! We have been watching and fixing errors, and we will go back to doing that after the holiday is over.

I am very sorry that we can't translate the site into Russian or offer support in Russian. We are a much, much smaller company than LiveJournal is, and my high school Russian classes were a very long time ago :) But at least we aren't owned by Sberbank!

С Новым Годом, and welcome home!

Thank you also to everyone who's been giving our new neighbors a warm welcome. I love you all ❤️
